Family reunion: EU/EEA spouse living in Germany

This visa enables you to travel to Germany and apply to the local immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) for a residence permit in order to join your spouse or registered partner.
General information
This visa category applies to spouses or registered partners of EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens. It is irrelevant whether the person you are joining is already residing in Germany or if you will be moving together.
The term “EU spouse/partner” does not include spouses or partners who also hold German nationality.
Submitting an application
Required Documents
Please bring the following documents in the specified order to your appointment at the Embassy. Additional documents may be requested in certain cases.
A valid passport, signed by the holder, issued within the last 10 years and with a minimum validity of one year, is required. The passport must contain at least two consecutive blank pages. Please ensure you bring the original passport to your appointment.
One fully biometric passport photo, measuring 35 x 45 mm, taken within the last three months. Digitally altered photos will not be accepted. Please ensure that your photo complies with German biometric standards and is taken against a white or light-colored background.
Please bring your valid Qatar residence permit (QID) to the appointment.
Original marriage/ civil/ registered partnership certificate (and 1 photocopy)
If issued outside Germany or the EU or UK must be legalised or apostilled as applicable.
Any document in a language other than German, English or French needs to be translated into one of these languages by a certified or sworn translator.
Original or certified copy of EU/ EEA/ Swiss passport or National ID card of spouse/ partner (passport: biodata page only)
and a photocopy of the passport biodata page or ID card
If the spouse/ partner already resides in Germany, please provide a photocopy of confirmation of spouse’s/ partner’s registration (Anmeldebestätigung or Meldebescheinigung)
