General Information

This visa enables you to travel to Germany, get married and apply to the local immigration office (“Ausländerbehörde”) for a residence permit in order to join your spouse.

German law provides for both mixed-sex and same-sex marriages.


Submitting an application

Necessary documents

Please bring the following documents in the mentioned order to your appointment at the Embassy. Additional documents may in some cases be requested. Documents sent in advance will not be archived.

A valid passport, signed by the holder, issued within the last 10 years and with a minimum validity of one year, is required. The passport must contain at least two consecutive blank pages. Please ensure you bring the original passport to your appointment.

One fully biometric passport photo, measuring 35 x 45 mm, taken within the last three months. Digitally altered photos will not be accepted. Please ensure that your photo complies with German biometric standards and is taken against a white or light-colored background.

Please bring your valid Qatar residence permit (QID) to the appointment.

that application for registration of marriage has been completed (Bestätigung der Anmeldung der Eheschließung) and wedding date has been set (Terminbestätigung)

copy of passport of future spouse/ partner (biodata page only)

confirmation of spouse’s/ partner’s registration in Germany (Anmeldebestätigung or Meldebescheinigung)

Evidence of basic German language proficiency

Certificates issued by any institution testing in accordance with the standards of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) are accepted. The test may not be older than one year.
