At the outset of the visit of Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Minister of Economy and Commerce of the State of Qatar, to Germany, the German Ambassador to Qatar, Hans-Udo Muzel, who is with the Qatari ministerial delegation in Germany, highlighted the strategic dimension of the German-Qatari economic cooperation, which is also reflected by the political relations between Germany as the most important European economic power, and Qatar as the world's largest producer and exporter of LNG.
H.E. Sheikh Ahmad met on 22 April 2018 for the first time with the new German Minister of Economy and Energy, H.E. Dr. Peter Altmaier, who was Chancellor Merkel's closest political adviser in his previous function as Chief of the Federal Chancellery . German Ambassador Hans-Udo Muzel, who accompanied H.E. Sheikh Ahmad, participated in the ministerial Meeting in Hannover. The Hannover Messe, the world's largest industrial exhibition was officially opened on Sunday by Chancellor Angela Merkel and Federal Minister of Economy and Energy, Peter Altmaier. Qatar participates for the first time in the world's most important industrial exhibition with an own pavilion.
Ambassador Muzel said: “Our countries share a wide scope of common interests in political, economic as well as cultural fields. Qatar is a strategic investor in Germany. Germany is among Qatar's biggest importers. As Europe's economic, industrial and hightech hub, Germany is Qatar's gateway to the European Union and beyond as well as to Eastern Europe."
H.E. Sheikh Ahmad also met with CEO's of large German companies and the Head of Germany's Federation of Industries. In Berlin, he held talks with the Chancellor's Chief Adviser for Economic and Financial Affairs, Prof. Lars- Hendrik Roeller.
